Alright then bloody let’s do it you mongrels.
Join me on the internet - on Thursday December 5 from 6:30pm AEST - as I resuscitate one man's quest to finish some damn songs.
OH YOU WANT CONTEXT DO YOU? TYPICAL
Did you know? I live streamed on Twitch during the pandemic. 35 times.
Then I stopped.
Well, let's do it again. BOY OH BOY.
O U REQUIRE MORE CONTEXT? STRAP IN
I released three albums between October 2021 and November 2022. Then things started slowing down. Now I'm sitting on a mountain of unreleased material and I haven't put anything out since January, for largely existential reasons. Help???
Here's the deal for this live stream. I hereby promise to play you music I haven't released yet, and ramble incoherently. Your end of the bargain is to drop in the chat and tell me "Nah it's good" and "Tim just get over it and release these songs" and "Tim r u ok" etc.
My prediction is that there will be about 4 of us. So if you have questions for me, this will be your chance to ask them. Mum, that includes you.
It'll be dinner time in Australia so feel free to chow down while we hang out. I promise not to eat on the stream.
In conclusion: sign up to sit on internet with me & listen to music & have weird time ok
MEANWHILE IN REAL LIFE
We have also just announced the next live event for my podcast Why Make Music, next Wednesday morning in Naarm.
The wonderful Ella Thompson will be my guest, and we have just 20 spots available for people to be part of it. We will hang out over BYO breakfast, have a good yarn, and then we’ll sit around and discuss and all get to know each other a bit. This is all in collaboration with my mate Francesca Gonzales who you might know from the band Cousin Tony’s Brand New Firebird, but who is also deeply thoughtful and passionate about community organising and mental health.
It’s damn wholesome! You should come to one of these if you can.
More info & get tickets here. Check out my last newsletter to see how last month’s event went. Was damn wholesome.
SPEAKING OF THE PODCAST
Since we last spoke I’ve posted a chat with Tim Hollo, a rather lovely and rather intelligent human being who has worked for decades at the intersection of politics, music and climate. He founded Green Music Australia, has a history of working on climate & arts policy with the Australian Greens, and his new book Living Democracy is an inspiring manifesto all about reimagining participatory democracy using ecological thinking.
Highly recommend listening to (or watching) this one if you ever feel frustrated that governments aren’t doing enough for the arts or for climate, but want to feel reassured that change is possible - then read the book!
Why Make Music is on YouTube, Apple Podcasts, Spotify and wherever you listen to podcasts.
THAT’S IT? NO RAMBLE?
I was going to write a whole thing about how I might start a church, but I’ll save that for next time - if you’re curious for a preview of that ramble, check out the “church” highlight on my IG. Spoiler alert: something something gathering in groups is an antidote to loneliness epidemic something something experiments in restoring the noble purpose and participatory nature of music something something how to mobilise climate action through hearts and minds.
