#29 I don't know about my.. streamin' anymore
All that I know is, I'm falling, falling, falling... might as well live-stream
Hello again. Shall we dance ???
STREAMS CAN COME TRUE
Have I ever streamed? Oh yeah I’ve streamed.
I’ve given it a go. A red-hot to luke-warm go.
Live streaming on the internet scratches a bunch of itches for me simultaneously - great for me, a man who is never so basic as to itch in only one location. Also, often when I have streamed, it has entertained between two and five other people. You can’t argue with those numbers! Everybody wins!
For those who have not yet pieced it together, I am officially now in my fuck-around-and-find-out era. So with that in mind, I am ready to stream again.
I hereby announce the impending arrival of AN ONLINE LISTENING SESSION.
I’ll be there, and you too maybe, and … yeah. Actually, probably that’s it, the two of us. But let’s bloody do it!
Maybe we can listen to some of this gear:
I mean - let’s not listen to 12 mixes of the same song to see which has the best snare/kick drum balance. I do not want to do that.
Let’s simply listen to a bunch of my unfinished music, and see if we can make some of it finished purely by willing it to be so. Because some of it probably is finished, and I’ve just been being a bitch about it! I’ve been all “waaaaa this song isn’t mixed good enough” .. “waaaaa fred again just used the same Splice sample as this one, why bother” … “waaaa surely this bridge could have a more compelling melodic counterpoint.” Nah!! I reckon a bunch of it probably is finished, or at least like 80% there, and 80% is, like, nearly all the way to 100%! That’s pretty damn finished !!
So let’s find out! Together!
Want to join my ONLINE LISTENING SESSION?
Well guess what. Here’s where it gets really exciting.
Cos now I’m gonna ask you to fill out another Google Form.
Last time I asked you to fill out a Google Form the results were surprising and delightful. So let’s do that again. Except this time, the form is even more boring, cos all I’m really asking you is the eternal question: “When’s good for you?”
I know a lot of people read this newsletter from different timezones. As for me, I’m on AEST, which stands for Australian Eastern Standard Time, but also stands for Always Eeeeenconvenient for Somebody out There.
So - whatever zone of time you are in - if you are down to hang, I’m down to make it work. Dude, I’m down under to make it work! Because Australia!!! Get it !!!!!??
Fill out the form if you want to hang. Then I’ll set a time and let everyone know.
There are probably only ten people in existence who think this would be a fun way to spend time, and asking people to fill out a Form in this newsletter is possbily the least efficient way to find those people. But what is digital life in the 21st century, if not a series of increasingly less efficient ways to connect with other people.
So tl:dr - live-stream gonna happen - help me figure out when and how.
Form fill now. Go. Thank.
TWO MORE EPISODES OF THE NOT-PODCAST
I have been talking into a microphone, and then publishing what I record as episodes, onto the internet. Some call this a “podcast.” It is definitely not a podcast. It’s me talking into a microphone with some people later listening to it. Totally different thing.
Since I last emailed you, I’ve put up a couple more episodes.
Somewhere between 50-100 of you are listening - that’s really fun. That’ll do. This is officially an indulgence on my part, a way for me to let my mind wander in semi-public and see if I can join the dots on all the things flying around my head. I hit record, talk for an hour, and at the end I’ve arrived at some new conclusions and smashed some brain-rocks into each other. It’s fun for me and weirdly, as someone who sometimes finds themselves in a position where I am advocating on behalf of groups of people, it’s a way for me to kind of rehearse my way through my thoughts and opinions, figure out how to articulate things I think and feel in real-time.
If it helps other people, keeps you company, points you in the direction of something interesting or engaging, that’s a win. For you. And a bit for me, by way of ego. Again - everybody wins! Jeez we are doing great today.
You can listen to the non-podcast on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Substack, and presumably anywhere else if you search for “Shiel Feels”, which is what it is called.
Lots more to come this week, and then every other week, until we are dead!
Sending you my love up to and then likely beyond that time (of death),
Tim
